Surge Protection
Today's homes and businesses have more sensitive electronic equipment than ever. From computers to stereos, televisions, microwaves and even coffee pots, electronic devices are present in high quantity. These devices make our lives easier, but, due to their delicate circuitry, they are all susceptible to damage from voltage surges. Orange County REMC is offers a full line of surge protection equipment for the appliances in your home or office. Information about the equipment is listed below. Contact Stacy Slaten for more information.Meter Socket (Level 1 Protection) Lease for $7 per month with a 3-year minimum. $10,000 warranty.
- Protects "white" appliances such as:
- Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers water heaters, stoves furnaces, air-conditioners, ets.
- Sensitive electronic equipment such as computers, TVs, stereos, VCRS DVD players, etc, ARE NOT COVERED WITH THIS DEVICE.
- Installed by Orange County REMC's member service technicians. Can only be installed in the meter if the meter is installed on the home or building in which it is to protect. The meter socket will not offer adequate protection if the meter is installed on a pole or another building separate from the home or building in which protection is desired.
Panel Surge Arrester (Level 1 protection) Lease for $7 per months with a 3-year minimum. $10,000 warranty.
- Protects "white" appliances such as:
- Refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers water heaters, stoves furnaces, air-conditioners, ets.
- Sensitive electronic equipment such as computers, TVs, stereos, VCRS DVD players, etc, ARE NOT COVERED WITH THIS DEVICE.
- Installed by the member service technicians. Installs directly in the breaker panel of the home or building requiring protection. Used when meter socket cannot be used because the meter is not installed on the home or building.
Plug Strips (Level 2 protection)
$10,000 or $25,000 warranty depending on model. See plug strip for actual warranty amount.
- Protects Sensitive Electronic Equipment, such as:
- Computers, printers, scanners, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, stereos, amplifiers, home theater equipment, microwave ovens, copiers, fax machines, etc.
- For best protection, a level one surge protection device (as mentioned above) should be installed at the service entrance, and then plug strips should be installed to protect each piece of sensitive equipment.
- Installed by the home owner. The home owner is responsible for proper installation and grounding of the plug strip.
